Vizcarra, accused of disloyalty, murder and other crimes held in jail at Durango. Sentenced by comandante general Ugarte to 10 years of hard labor in leg chains to be served at real obrage of Encinillas. Intendente of Durango, Diaz protests to virrey that actions by Ugarte involving military courts belonged to office of intendente, therefore accuses gobernador of insubordination and comandancia of incompetence. Requests from virrey copy of real cedula of 1785 defining duties. Interesting for conflict between officials over jurisdiction and responsibilities of intendency versus gobernador of Provincias Internas during period of implementation of administrative changes in New Spain. Documents include royal cedula outlining reorganization of Provincias Internas, responsibilities of gobernadores, intendentes and other officials toward office and king. Topics include taxes, administrative territories and interaction between civil and military departments, fiscal obligations, salaries, goals for defense and economy. Crespo discusses plans for and purposes of second overland expedition to Monte rey (to be led by Anza). Gives numbers of soldiers and settlers to make trip. Reports on visit by Palma and his wishes to establish missions in Juma lands. Discusses status of relations with Jumas and other Indians in region of Gila-Colorado confluence and what this means for expedition. (S. Fiederlein, may 1987)

Excerpts from Fueros letter details type of mining (silver and gold), mining conditions, personnel, shortage of water (need to open Pozo of specified size), and Indian incursions. Requests acknowledgement of receipt of royal fifth at real Caxa de los Alamos. Document fragment by unknown author discusses construction of Plaza with houses of earth, distribution of weapons for defense, establishment of partida to patrol, and necessity for escort of troops to help workers. Fueros complains to viceroy about how officials at real tribunal de Cuentas handled his account. Sends copy of response from tribunal officials and his own response back to them. Also draft response from Mexico Fueros indicates shipment of gold to real Caxa de los Alamos as royal fifth. Memo notes amount received in preceeding year as royal fifth from these Placeres. (S. Fueros reports on status of placer mining operations and problems caused by Indian depredations. Draft responses from viceroy(?) Intermingled with letters. Discusses theft of mules and horses, problems with transporting supplies, military administrative affairs, problems Indian attacks causing for workers at placers, diminishing returns from placers. Series of declarations and report by Fueros recounting details of Indian attack on Mule train carrying food supplies. A very detailed informe on present military strength and capability of new presidios transferred as a result of reglamento of 1772; includes details on weapons; constructions at new sites; commanders and officers at posts; geography of region; explorations of O'Conor; and many related details of historical merit.
