Summary
Joseph de Reano brings suit against Francisco Mascarenas for taking unfair advantage of his nephew, Juan Mascarenas - a minor -, and selling his land and livestock. Juan, an orphan, was under guardianship of Reano's wife. Antonio de Uribarri, Alcalde mayor of Santa Fe, carries out investigation. Gobernador Cruzat y Gongora rules in favor Reano and Young Mascarenas. Land and livestock sold contrary to rights before law. Summary
The governor complains of the confusion caused by the considerable number of strayed animals, and the frequent abuses that occur, involving theft, false claims of ownership, and illegal trade in such animals. He issues an order delineating a new regulation governing the disposition of such animals and the penalty for its infraction (four years of exile to the province of Zuni). And, requires that the Alcaldes mayores of the various towns and settlements publish the order publicly, in both Spanish and Indian languages. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

Summary
The performance of Cuerbo y Valdes during his term as governor of Nueva Mexico is examined by the viceroy, the duque de Linares. Testimony from various sources is considered; and the suit between Valdes and the presidial soldiers, and between Valdes and the marques de la Penuela is examined. The viceroy finds the soldiers and the marques culpable; and he orders the marques to refund Valdes, within one month, considerable amounts of money and merchandise. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

Summary
Following a recent uprising of the Suma Indians, the Spaniards are attempting to placate and settle the discontented tribes. This is an order from the viceroy to Valverde y Cosio, commanding officer of el Passo, regarding the decision of the council for the Indian settlements. Valverde y Cosio is instructed regarding the accommodation of the Indians in locations pleasing to themselves, the distribution of agricultural tools and allotment of land, in attempt to engage the Indians in agricultural cultivation, so as to keep them occupied, constructively, and so reduce the chances for further uprisings.
