Birth records indicated he was born in 1917 in El Paso and lived as a child for some years in Nogales with his family. He graduated from the U of A in 1941 with a BA in zoology, and was a member of the pre-med club noted above. Dr. Wuerschmidt went on to pursue a medical degree at the State University of New York, graduated in 1943, became board-certified in Ophthalmology, and then practiced in Oswego, New York where he wrote the first letter from in 1968. In the mid 1950s he became an associate member of the Pima County Medical Society, apparently maintaining his ties to Southern Arizona. Dr. Wuerschmidt died in 1977. [Source: various Internet sites]
