Wollard, Clarence ("Clancy")

Born ~1910. Died June 6, 1997. “Clancy Wollard (Orchestra)” in 1933 Minutes of the Pima County Medical Society, 1904-1954 (P0461 & P0463). Name appears as “Clancey” and “Clancy.” “Horseman Clarence “Clancy” Wollard, who was on the scene when quarter horse racing got its start in Tucson….Wollard served as general manager and racing secretary at the old Moltacqua Turf Club during the late 1930’s, as well as its successor, the Rillito race track.…the son of police chief C.A. “Gus” Wollard, who arrested John Dillinger and his gang during their brief stay in Tucson in January 1934….Wollard was also a trumpet player who put himself through college at the University of Arizona with his dance band, Clancy’s Collegians.” Source: Arizona Daily Star June 10, 1997, p.3B.
