October 25, 2007 Arizona Daily Star obituary: John Thomas Spriggs, loving husband and father died peacefully on Tuesday October 23, 2007 at Cornerstone Hospital. John was born on January 8, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas G. and Ruth Scoville Spriggs , and by his brothers, George and Earl, and his son, VernJohn. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Vern A. Spriggs ; his daughters, Karen L. Kerr (James), Marcia Sawyer (Stephen), Jeanine Humphreys, and Melanie Spriggs (Christopher Deluze); his sons, Timothy Spriggs and Mark Spriggs (Jannett); his grandchildren, David Kerr, Christine Heifner (Kerr), Christina Kerr, Lee Saywer, Dylan Thomas Saywer, Heather Humphreys, Luke Humphreys, Timothy Spriggs , Paolina Povolotskaya, Dasha Spriggs , Nicole Spriggs , and Katelyn Spriggs ; his great-grandchildren, Carly Kerr, Ashley Kerr and Alexander Kerr. He graduated from Wayne University College of Medicine in 1954, beginning his many years of dedication to the medical community, as an internist and rheumatologist. He was a Founding Fellow of the American Rheumatism Association. He also received the Arthritis Foundation National Volunteer Service Citation. He is remembered for his intelligence, sense of humor, and his kind and generous nature. He touched many lives and lives on through those lives. Church Services will be held at the Episcopal Parish of St. Michael and All Angels, 602 N. Wilmot Road, on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 830 A.M. Reception immediately following service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Greater Southwest Chapter for Research.
