Morrow speaking to Jonas Edward Salk, MD, on the evening of April 12,1955. The day marked the 10th anniversary of Franklin D. Roosevelt's death and a turning point in public health. Earlier that day, at a press conference at the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, the world had learned the results of a massive field trial ofthe inactivated poliomyelitis vaccine developed by Salk and his colleagues.
