Nichols, who has been engaged in the practice of medicine at Springerville, Apache County for the past five years, has demonstrated his professional ability and commands a large practice. He was born in New Hampshire, Connecticut on the 6th day of July 1863 and is a son of James A. and Frances E. (Goodwin) Nichols, the former of whom was a successful shoe manufacturer. He received his early education in the public schools of Derry New Hampshire, aster which he attended Dartmouth College at Hanover, from which he graduated in 1882. In the following year he entered the employ of the Southern Pacific Railroad in Arizona and in 188 was transferred by that company to Texas. In 1890 he
quit the railroad and bought a drug store at Colorado, Texas which he conducted for three years and in 1893 matriculated in Barnes Medical College of St. Louis, Missouri. On completing his training, Dr. Nichols went to Indian Territory and two years later to Fort Stockton Texas where he remained two years. In 1900 Dr. Nicholas took the Arizona medical examination, was admitted to practice and located at Safford where he practiced two years, going fro there to Clint, El Paso county, Texas. Three years later he went to Nacazari, old Mexico where he practiced for five years, followed by two years at Tigre, that country. In 1913 he located to Pearce Arizona and four years later went to Bisbee as surgeon for the Copper Queen Company. He was there for four years and during the ensuing years was physician for the Apache Lumber Company at McNary.
In 1924 Dr. Nichols came to Springerville where he has since remained. On March 10, 1889 he married Isla Shortridge of El Paso Texas and they are the parents of five children: Bernice, Harland, Gayle, Thornton and Enid.
