J Am Med Assoc, Jun 1956; 161: 541: DR. LEVEROOS TO LEAVE COUNCIL ON MEDICAL EDUCATION AND HOSPITALS. Dr. Edward H. Leveroos, Director, Division of Hospitals and Graduate Education of the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, will leave the American Medical Association staff on July 1 to become Director of the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. During his period with the American Medical Association, Dr. Leveroos was responsible for the planning, organization, and direction of the activities of the graduate education section of the Council, including the program of approval of hospitals for intern and residency training. He has played an important role in correlating the activities of the Council in the field of residency training in the specialties with those of the American boards concerned. He also maintained liaison with the American boards and with the appropriate sections of the Armed Services, Veterans Administration, the United States Public Health Service, and various civilian agencies engaged in graduate medical education. His duties included the preparation of the Annual Report on Internships and Residencies and the lists of hospitals approved for graduate training published annually in The Journal.
The Council on Medical Education and Hospitals wishes to acknowledge with appreciation the constructive contributions Dr. Leveroos has made to its program and to the over-all field of graduate medical education.
