Henry John Kurtin, MD son of Joseph and Mary Kurtin, was born on February 7, 1913 in Cudahy, WI, and died on July 18, 2009 at home in Tucson. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Josephine, Mary and Agnes, as well as his brother, Joseph. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Isabelle; his sons, John (Margaret), Bob (Margie) and Tom (Sandy) Kurtin, and by daughter, Mary Kurtin. He had eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He graduated from Marquette University School of Medicine in 1937 and practiced general medicine in southern Minnesota until 1952. He then returned to Marquette and completed an Opthalmology residency in 1954. From there he moved to Tucson and practiced with A.J. Wagner, MD [see Wagner, Alphonse John] in their downtown office on Scott Ave. until 1979. He then spent 15 years as a medical consultant for the Disability Determination Service. He was an active member of St. Ambrose Catholic parish from 1954 until his death. The family would like to thank Fr. Bill Dougherty, CSP for his many acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at 829 S. 6th Ave, 85701, or to the charity of your choice. A Mass will be celebrated for him at St. Ambrose Church at 300 S. Tucson Blvd. on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. [Published in the Tucson Newspapers from 7/21/2009 - 7/22/2009]
