Howes, assistant superintendent of the New Hampshire State Hospital at Concord, was appointed superintendent of the Arizona State Hospital, Phoenix, July 11. The position has been open since Dr. Otto L. Bendheim was given a leave of absence to enter military service.

I.; at one time assistant superintendent of the New Hampshire State Hospital at Concord; served during World War II; formerly affiliated with the U. S. Veterans Administration Regional Office in Boston and chief of the neuropsychiatrie service at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Manchester, N. H.; died in Worcester (Mass.) City Hospital Feb. 1, aged 60.
