The Arizona Miner, Prescott, June 22, 1864: ...Resolved, That a Mass Meeting be held at Prescott, on Monday, July 4th, 1861, at noon, to celebrate the 88th anniversary of American Independence, and propery to inaugurate the new town, a fresh evidence of American progress and prosperity. Resolved, That His Excellency Governor Goodwin be invited to preside on the occasion. Resolved, That the Hon Richard C. McCormick, Secretary of the Territory, be invited to deliver an oration. Resolved, That John Forbes, James G. Barney, John Howard, Dr. T. P. Seeley and Dr. James Garwin be a committee to make all necessary arrangements for the meeting...
