George Franklin, pharmacist, ex-Nogales alderman, dies George O. Franklin, a lifetime Nogales resident who served 22 years as a city alderman, died yesterday from natural causes at a Tucson hospital. He was 71. Franklin was on the Nogales City Council from 1961 to 1983. The World War II veteran graduated in 1950 from the University of Arizona with a pharmacy degree. In 1983 he earned a doctorate in that field. For 17 years, he owned Franklin's Pharmacy until he retired in 1992, said his daughter, Deborah Oaks. He often would make house calls and trade medicines for various goods with poor Nogales, Sonora, residents. Franklin was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Boy Scouts of America and served on a planning committee for the community center, Oaks said. He was appointed to the Arizona Regional Medical Program by the UA medical school dean and to the Arizona Pharmaceutical Association for three terms. Besides Oaks, Franklin is survived by his wife, Carlota of Nogales; two sons, George N. of Nogales and Richard N. of Rio Rico; three brothers, Henry of Sequim, Wash.; James of El Paso and William of Wenatchee, Wash.; four sisters, Theresa Smith of Sequim, Alice Willey of Nogales, Kay Llanes of Tucson, and Patricia Miranda of Atlanta; and eight grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow at Adair's Carroon Mortuary Chapel, 1191 N. Grand Ave. A rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Services are set for 9:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, 272 N. Rodriguez St. Burial will follow at the Nogales City Cemetery.
