On the roll of the able and successful physicians and surgeons of Phoenix no name is held in higher regard than is that of Dr. William C. Ellis, who for twenty two years has devoted his efforts to the practice of his profession in this city. … Doctor Ellis was born in Adams County, Ohio on the 10th day of January 1875, and is a son of John and Kizzie (Duncan) Ellis, both of whom also were native of the old Buckeye state, where the father followed the vocation of farming throughout his life. He died there a number of years ago and is survived by his widow, who still resides at the old family home. William C. Ellis received his early education in the public and high schools of Manchester, Ohio and in 1895 matriculated in the Medical College of Ohio at Cincinnati from which he graduated in 1899. In the following year he entered into the practice of his profession at Portsmouth, Ohio where he remained until 1905 and in 1907 he came to Phoenix where he has since been engaged in the general practice of medicine and surgery. … The Doctor has been prospered in his material affairs and is the owner of valuable property in this city, including the Ellis Building, one of the lading office and store buildings of this city. Dr. Ellis has been married twice, first in 1900 to Bernie Martin who died in 1915, leaving a daughter, Helen, now twenty four years old and the wife of James Gordon Shackeford of Phoenix. His second wife was Reba Blount of Illinois and a daughter of Frank J. Blount of Phoenix. He is actively interested in the social and civic affairs of this city and is extremely popular in the circles in which she moves. Dr. Ellis is a member of the Masonic order, belonging to the Blue Lodge at Sardinia, Ohio and of the IOOF. He is affiliated with the Maricopa County Medical Society, the Arizona State Medical Society and the American Medical Assoc. and aside from his private practice has served as Chief of the medical staff of the Deaconess Hospital and is at this time on the staffs of both of the Phoenix hospitals.
