Edward Harvey Cushing, Medical Corps, United States Naval Reserve : "For meritorious service in connection with the work of the United States of America Typhus Commission. On Captain Cushing, the first executive officer of the commission, fell the responsibilities of administering and directing the work of the commission in the early months of 1943, when the director was invalided as a result of illness. To the contribution which Captain Cushing had made to the planning of the first overseas expedition of the United States of America Typhus Commission he added personal service of high order in his forceful and tactful administration of the activities of the commission during a difficult period at its first station in the Middle East."

Cushing, associate clinical professor of medicine at Western Reserve, Cleveland, has been appointed chief of education in the Veterans Administration department of medicine and surgery. Veteran of both world wars, Dr. Cushing will supervise training of full time employees in veterans' hospitals and will work with deans' committees.
