Claiborne Rothwell Carver was born July 2, 1857, and died June 7, 1920. He began practicing medicine during the last few years of the 19th century. According to his daughter-in-law, Dr. Carver received credit for medical courses he took at the University of Arkansas and the Univesity of Missouri. He moved to Texas sometime in the 1890s and apparently practiced in various West Texas towns until his death in San Angelo. He received a certificate in the field of x-ray in 1912 and worked with a hand operated x-ray machine. According to Mrs. Carver, he presented a paper to the Texas Medical Society on the use of x-rays probably between 1908 and 1913. About May, 1973 AHSL received from Mrs. Madeline Carver of Page, Arizona, the widow of the doctor’s son, Fred H. Carver, a set of surgical instruments used by Dr. Carver in West Texas. [above information from archival AHSL Administration files]
