Kennedy, John W. Arizona Medical Association : the first hundred years, 1892-1991. Flagstaff, Ariz. : Heritage Publishers, 1993, page 71: On October 2 [1949], the [ArMA] council accepted the resignation of Mr. Carl Peachy as executive secretary and on January 15 [1950], interviewed Mr. Robert Carpenter. “As a man with wide experience in public relations” and approved his appointment. He began serving the association in January, 1950.

J Am Med Assoc, Feb 1950; 142: 494: Executive Secretary Appointed. -- Mr. Robert Carpenter, Phoenix, for twenty years executive secretary of the county board of Essex County, New Jersey, has been appointed executive secretary of the Arizona State Medical Association. Mr. Carpenter has most recently been office manager of a steel company in Phoenix. The state association plans to extend its public relations program.
