Willis R. Brewer, PhD, was the third dean of the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. Dean Brewer was the youngest person ever appointed dean at the UA when he took over the reigns at the College of Pharmacy on July 1, 1952. At 33 years old, Dr. Brewer already had served on the faculty as a professor of pharmacognosy since 1949. Over the next 23 years under Dr. Brewer's guidance, the College expanded to include doctoral programs in pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacology. He enjoyed such a long and popular tenure that many early students began sending their sons and daughters to the college and to Dr. Brewer. He retired in 1975 to become assistant to the vice president for health sciences at the university. Dr. Brewer remained on the faculty for several more years after his deanship.[Source: UA College of Pharmacy website, 9/21/2015]
