Summary
Document begins with an order from the king to his real Audiencia in Mexico to investigate Cruzat y Gongora on termination of his office (copy, Sevilla 1731). Discussion follows in Mexico several years among members of royal Suniga is appointed in charge of the residencia (September 26, 1736). He does not show up in New Mexico to begin his investigations until August 26, 1737. Alcaldes mayores are called, the order is reviewed for Cases tried and witnesses are interrogated for complaints against Cruzat y Gongora. He, and all the Alcaldes mayores, are exonerated completely, and Cruzat y Gongora is recommended for future employment in the royal government. (thoric cederstrom) (1980)
