Two letters concerning affairs in Tarahumara country, including harsh measures taken by capitan Berretoran against Tarahumaras accused of various crimes despite intercession of missionaries, other Spaniards in area. A well-documented list of complaints against el capitan Don Gregorio. Includes- instances of harassing priests; 3 incidents of harassment of Pimas by presidio soldiers; the capitan augments his fortune in commerce and mining through the use of military personnel to the detriment of the functioning of the presidio. Gives number of killings for 8 years of- Pimas killed by Apaches (130); Apaches killed by Pimas (30-35); and Apaches killed by soldiers (15). (R. Perez) (1976)

Concerns debt owed by capitan of dragones de Espana Nicolas Gonzales del Junco to missions of peninsula of California; argument that barley a gift from padre Tompes to virrey for feed of horses in compania de dragones. (p. Coyle February 1990)

Concerns campaigns against Indians; presidio of Sacramento; Indians negotiate surrender but others refuse. Petition to relocate presidio of Sacramento to Santa Rosa Valley because of better strategic location to fight the Indians. Cura Flores gives accounts of events with Indians to viceroy; report is also given about the charity from missions toward Indians (items given to the Indians include cloth and food). Cura Flores argues that Santa Rosa Valley would be a better place for new presidio. Protection is asked for missions, specially for Nadadores, Santiago de Xalisco and San Buenaventura.
