A collection of letters written by fr. Diego Bringas. There are Ten letters in all, sent to fr. Francisco Rivera with the exception of one which was written to fr. Francisco Iturralde. These letters were all written during the year 1795, from various missions. Some are written on full folios and others on half folios. All the letters are original and each has the autograph of fr. This informe was written by fr. Raphael Verger to the gov. And contains also the diary of fr. Juan Crespi acerca del descubrimento de el Nuevo Rio de S. Francisco. added by fr. Palou is the following- relacion compendios a del reconocim.to de la Costa desde Monte Rey, que esta en los 36 1-2 Grados de Altura Hasta los 55, hecho Por el Piloto Juan Perez, en Este Ano de 1774 en compania de los padres, fr. This is an informe of fr. Pedro Ramirez complaining of the bad treatment given the missions and missionaries by capitan Tobar... desde el Primer ingreso de Este Senor capitan Al el comando de su compania ha sido Una continua persecusion, y perTubacion de los animos de los Religiosos... it was written from the mision de S. Joseph de Balero, and contains the name of fr. Pedro Ramirez although it is not the original document. (microfilm catalog)

This informe of fr. Mariano proposes a number of suggestions for facilitating the subjugation of the Apaches. Other informes are added by capitan Don Thoribio de Urrutia. These documents sewed together are all original and bear the autographs of fr. Mariano de los Dolores and Don Thoribio de Urrutia. (microfilm catalog)

This informe written to the virrey by fr. Joseph Pinilla asks for the extension of the mission territory so that more Indians may be converted. It speaks of the mission de la Bahia and del Rosario. It has no date. This is an original document autographed by fr. Joseph Pinilla. (microfilm catalog)

In this Palou reports to Verger on the uprising in great detail. This being the best account among many in the file on this case. He speaks of the autocracy of gov. Don Phelipe Barn at Loreto, and claims that he has taken all power from the mission governors and fiscales, and has encouraged a group of rebels to lead their peoples against the fathers and has removed the Franciscans guard. Uprisings have already occurred at San Xavier, Loreto, and Todos Santos. The gov. Also sent bad reports on the Franciscans, accusing them of the acts of cruelty which he in fact committed. An excellent and highly detailed report on military and religious relations in the missions. Material on aboriginal culture is, however, lacking. (C. Briggs) (1975)

Palou sends Verger a letter detailing a report on the state of the missions in the peninsula of California. Four points are stressed- 1) four missions should be placed between San Fernando and San Diego, 2) the Dominicans should not found missions on the peninsula, as it is not good to have two ^religions^ in the same land, 3) fr. Palou arrived in San Xavier to quelch an uprising of the Indians - here certain details are given, and 4) the military, especially gov. Don Phelipe Barri is hurting the operations of the missions. Highly interesting document in its description of the problems in mission life and relations with Spaniards. The letter concerns the mission of Nuestra Senora del Pilar de Todos Santos. The document also reflects military-clergy conflict of authority. (C. Briggs) (1975)
