Diary and letter reporting on Apache attack on San Joseph Paraje and efforts to hunt down culprits. Gives information on number of Leguas Marched, terrain, vegetation, and settlements. Rodriguez reports on Indian crimes and depredations committed in area and discusses how to deal with them. Also discusses his military service, need for salaries to be paid, and death of chaplain and need to replace him. Letters interspersed with notes to Rodriguez by unknown official(S) on issues in letters. Alderete recounts (to Rodriguez) battle with Indians where cabo was injured and discusses actions taken against Indians. Alderete writes diary recounting activities of troops under his command at Santa Rosa presidio from July 14 - December 31, 1767. Details administration and organization of presidial troops, their routine activities, actions against Apaches, Indian activities, and mail service. Letter concerning military appointments, problems with Apaches, and military actions. Alderete certifies that he informed troops of viceroy's letter about salaries. Also discusses official proclamations about war between France and England, concern for defense against English invasion, and expedition to Panzacola.
