Letters concerning campaign against Seri, Pima rebels, Apaches in league; protection of missions by cavalry; some population figures for indios fixos, laborios, mulatos y Negros (f.308); mentions auxiliaries under Pineda; Cassimiro stripped of rank of teniente for misconduct. Letters to, from, concerning Casimiro, who has asked to resign as gobernador, citing chaotic state of province, military misconduct as reasons. Cancio complains of milicious treatment of hito, general meanness of residents in province. F.267 gives populations of laborios, mulatos, Negros, indios fixos in Ostimuri. (A. Dean, August 1989)

Tueros asks permission to travel to capital to restore health, finish la reduccion de las reales. Complains that his salary of 40 pesos/month is insufficient, he loses it all gambling. Some documents concerning his wages, salaries of companias Voluntarias. Inquiry into Tueros' involvement in gambling operation. List of charges made against Tueros includes using treasury funds to create gambling establishment in his own house; corrupting people of breeding (states la gente bulgar y pleveya son naturalmente inclinada a estos exercicios F.147), causing mine operators, merchants to lose their fortunes; making 500 pesos/year just in gambling profits. Tordesilla claims that one evening 15 soldiers, sailors passed outside his house loudly singing obscenities; he reprimanded them; Vargas, among them, assaulted him. Complains that Elizondo did nothing about incident. Testimonies from tordesilla, his doctor, his neighbors, miscreants. (A. Dean, August 1989)

Abalos accuses Olasaran of viciousness, treason, imperiosity, among other things. Olasaran accuses Abalos of calumny, being an imposter (Abalos claims his Father is C. Abalos; Sanchez claims C. Abalos had no son). Frequently mentioned that Abalos is mestizo. Many letters from character witnesses protesting for/against each party. Inserted in middle of these is Series of letters concerning death of Guzman (f.262-265), in which Abalos is apparently implicated. Buena is widow of Guzman. It seems Abalos is arrested, his punishment discussed. (A. Dean, July 1989)

Vague documents concerning civilian complaint of rule forbidding cutting wood on land around Presas, apparently claimed by J.e. Serna; wood needed to build houses. Serna asks time off for his health. Long, literate letter by Gonzales de Paredes, signed by all members of Milicia, some vecinos, indicting Serna for incompetence, arrogance. Serna arrested in San Carlos for disobeying Yxart's order to appear in court (in Presas), but soon released. (A. Dean, July 1989)

J.e. Serna, by order of Yxart, offers his services to Paredes. Formal complaints by some Milicia officers of despotism by Serna, apparently resulting in charges of insubordination. Maria Josefa, wife of Serna, tries to get legal separation from him, claiming cruelty, neglect. (A. Dean, July 1989)

Ff.450-451 Genebriera asks six months' leave with pay to go to Havana. Ff.452-452 (See misc. Notes) Perez returns to post after two-month leave. F.454-455 Menchaca is retired as invalid. Ff.456-466 Hoz seems to be requesting reimbursement for salary interfered with (stolen?) By Echevarria; recounts being threatened at gunpoint. F.457 is transcript of total wages received by Hoz. Ff.458-490 are court transcripts, copies, of case between Hoz and military treasury (apparently) over missing wages. (A. Dean, December 1989)

Ff.435-436 Vega disputes accusation of insubordination. F.437 Pardo asks for authorization to tally votes in election of Alcalde (no location given). F.438 Pardo complains of lack of funds to supply company of Aguaverde. F.439 is description of Indian attack on Gigedo; Pardo begs for better defense. Ff.440-449 concern Perez' request for two months' leave to go to Mexico City to restore his health. (A. Dean, December 1989)

Ff.408-409 Pardo complains of his abject poverty due to cessation or delay of salary. Ff.410-420 concern real Orden de 16 de Mayo de 1785 in reference to replacing older officers with Younger; includes several documents and copies of older documents about implementation of this act. Ff.421-422 Marcos anzajo requests release of his son from prison; crime is unclear, but apparently arrest was on suspicion. Ff.423-425 concern regulation of ships approaching Altamira to prevent contraband trade; mentions Bergantin and telegrafo ships. (A. Dean, December 1989)
