Military Conflicts

Concerns Series of reports on military negligence in defending haciendas and presidios. Indians have been able to inflict terror among people of the provinces. Diaz and other military officials are accused of being incompetent. Indians have stolen horses and killed inhabitants of towns without punishment. (M. Marroquin, may 1989)

Concerns documents on reduccion of idol workshiping Indians. Viceroy asks when Indians will be ready to pay tributes. List of soldiers for presidio of Nayarit are appointed (list is provided here). Governor Canaveral accuses captain Oca of being negligent in the administration of presidio, the reason why Indians have not been reduced yet. Letter of denunciation is sent to the viceroy. (M. Notice of revision of ramo de alcavalas of the provinces of Nuevo Santander; governor receives copies of bandos from the viceroy (bandos are related to prohibition of commerce among employees of ramo de rentas); viceroy authorizes military escort for Munoz, who is traveling to Texas; notice that people of tributary classes must get a licence to get out of domicile; viceroy gives recommendations about dealing with ships claiming to be whale hunting; Cierragorda receives order to release Alferez de Tula; notice is given that Mugier's case be reviewed; titulo de Castilla is given to Serena; Cierragorda receives copies of Bando giving pardon to people guilty of contraband (M. Concerns letters from Lorca to viceroy giving notice of new job being undertaken. Junon complains about Jose Santana who is captain of Villa Escandon. Internship is requested to cover absences of Santana. Lorca is appointed governor of Nuevo Santander when Lasaga resigned. Lorca requests promotion to brigadier, claiming that his salary as governor isn't enough to support his lifestyle and family. Document is very repetitive and bears little information. (M.
