Troops from Coahuila, led by Ugalde, engage in battles with rancherias causing distrust among Indians. Diaz informs Rengel of increasing problems in maintaining positive relations with Mescaleros due to Ugaldes refusal to return prisoners and caballerias that were captured during illicit raids.
