Major campaign in Cerro Prieto. Pineda too fat to keep up. Involves troops from both Quarteles (Guaymas, Pitic). Some troops occupy mountain heights while others move up canyons. Led by Indian prisoner who knew area. Rebels burned off pasturage at entrance to canyons. Indians at one Rancheria flee. Cerro Prieto described as un laverinto de Cerros, barrancos y despenaderos. Despite failure to engage rebels, Elizondo feels expedition having effect, both Anza, Allande report crosses of peace left by rebels. Seri capitan Crisanto ready to surrender. (T. Sheridan) (1980)

Nava informs virrey that Lipanes de arriba are very cooperative in peace treaty; Lipanes de Abajo do not want peace. explains that de arriba habit of hunting Cibolo twice a year is cause of discord between bands. Apaches are poorly disciplined, unused to following one chief; lay of their land makes it difficult to anticipate attacks. Mentions attack by Mescaleros, supported by troop, against Comanches; conflict resolved. Texas gobernador preparing campaign against de Abajo Lipanes. Summary
Nava informs virrey that he will recruit about 1000 Indians to fight Apaches. Nava instructs Concha to be very careful not to let Comanches know their friendship is useful only in war against Apaches. Virrey orders Nava to put one Destacamento Saltillo, another in Alamo de Parra, to facilitate communication between two comandancias. Nava informs virrey of Castro's petition for 400 soldiers, says request is impossible but with Comanche alliance he will be able to help Castro. Copy of letter from Castro to Nava concerning how to prepare an attack on Lipanes without jeopardizing comandancias. Comandante of presidio del Norte informs Nava of situation with Indians. (D.
