Request to fill three vacancies in the segunda compania de Santander. Promotion of Uson to segunda Alferez. Question of Uson's monthly salary. Confirmation of Uson's position.

Request by Josef Bujanos to be transferred to the segunda compania volante del Nuevo Santander from the regimiento de dragones in Mexico. He wants to work with his Brother, Miguel, who is Alferez of the segunda compania. He also requests he be made a sargento. His request to move is granted. He goes as Cavo and the way is left open for him to become sargento, if he qualifies when the position opens up. (S. Langmack October 1989)

Bujanos named Primer Alferez of Segundo compania volante de Nuevo Santander based on recommendations from Cueva and others. Position originally slated for Ramon Perea but letters state he's not intelligent enough. (S. Langmack oct.1989)

Includes 3 unrelated expedientes, numeros 19-21. Numero 19 concerns attack by Meco Indians on Rancheria Martinez; Serrada recounts ordeal, telling of horses killed by arrows or stolen; he has taken several Indians prisoner, awaits word on punishment or place of imprisonment; told to send those guilty of previous crimes to Havana, others to Castillo Ulua; Galves outlines plan for sending adult Indians to Castillo to learn Christian doctrine and to prevent further 'deserciones'; other Indians 'remitidos' to various Villas, possibly to help in tobacco harvest. In 20, Serna regrets that he is unable to assume appointment as 'teniente' in company of Nuevo Leon due to health and other factors. In 21, comerciante Fernandez outlines glorious potential of maritime trade between Veracruz and Nuevo Santander, arguing that salt, plomo, Carne, Lana, other necessary goods could be more easily and cost efficiently traded by sea than land, if government tax and other policies were to encourage, not discourage, maritime entrepreneurs; fiscales promptly denounce Fernandez's 'representacion,' stating that 'no tiene Cosa substancial.' Documents relate Vidal de Lorca's request for transfer of his two sons to his colony of Nuevo Santander. Payments of salary owed to one son. Son's promotion. Another letter by Ugalde gives a good description of state of military affairs in the colony. Its lack of training, discipline, and instruction is emphasized in folios 35-37. Granting of six-month leave granted to his son in order to serve as an instructor of the troops in the colony. Additional letters concern this son's disinterest in his new post and his transfer to Mexico to rejoin his old regiment. (P. Lenz, September 1989)

Series of documents dealing with the home arrest of Alferez Dufay. He argues that personal discrepancies with high ranking military assistance to the comander of Nuevo Reyno de Leon, are the causes the unfair treatment he receives. This documents is full of details envolving possible reasons why Dufay deserved to be arrested, I. E. Disorganized corn distribution to Indians in San Cristobal mission and bad aministration of resources and supplies. Dufay smuggled letters to the governor explaining contradictions with military official. (M. Marroquin, August 1989)
