Concerns meeting of commander of la Bahia and Indians in which they convinced him they had no intention of joining Carancaguazes. Discusses raid on carancaguaze rancherria where they found clothing donated by missionaries. Mentions the taking of a Christian female carancaguaze and her two children during another encounter. (R. Discusses expedition of September 26, 1779 to keep Mayeyes, Cocos, and Orcoquizas from joining Carancaguaces. Also discusses return of captured Indian woman to Rosario mision. Concerns relationship of Lipanes and Mescaleros. As a result of a previous encounter between both groups some Lipanes are dead and 600 animals were stolen. Governor of Coahuila had appeased Lipanes who were going to avenge Mescaleros. Advises Cavello that he should help out southern Indian groups or else they would be wiped out by naciones del Norte (Comanches or other plains groups?). (R. Graham) (1979)

Chiricahuas send 2 emissaries to Tapia telling him to come to Sierra del Medio to get Felix Guerra, Spanish soldier held by Chiricahuas. At same time, emissary from Gilenos, Mimbrenos under Nataneju, Pachateju, el Surdo tells Tapia Chiricahuas planning a trap. Tapia assembles 72 soldiers, including militia from El Paso under Miranda, Opatas under general Varela, Marches to el Medio. Chiricahuas ransom guerra for 10 horses, then 300 of them appear to attack Spaniards. Because of ruggedness of territory, Tapia retreats to presidio. Muniz commends Tapia on his caution, tells him Gila Apaches have many Spanish prisoners in mountains. (T. Sheridan) (1977)
