Letter from Bonilla to the viceroy communicating the Orden real whereby Vaamonde is designated gobernador of the Nuevo Reino de Leon due to the death of Gonzalez de Santianez. Prior to assuming the post, Vaamonde has to pay his debt with the real hacienda. Vaamonde asks to be discounted half of his salary as gobernador until the debt is liquidated. His request is accepted. Later, during the investigations motivated by the accusations of corruption raised against Vaamonde, the real hacienda is asked concerning the situation of this debt which, by 1795, was already liquidated. Collection of short documents sent to the fiscal de la real hacienda concerning Vaamonde prior to his designation as Sayula when he was Alcalde mayor of this jurisdiction; approval of the designation of military officials proposed by him; and the investigation of his economic situation and debts with the real hacienda. Documents deal with the transportation of 47 mecosto Mexico from Tula by Fernandez and at his own expense. Indeed, he says that to cover such costs he had to sell personal articles and is asking to be compensated for such costs. A letter by Garibay acknowledges such costs and it is advised to give Fernandez 200 pesos as compensation. Other aspects of the document speak of previous resettlement of Indians and speak of such resettlement as necessary to educate them, christianize them, and overcome su Gran indocil. there is a letter from conde de Sierra Gorda about a Collera of 121 Indians and he advocates his policy of separating men from women and children. F. 320-321 contains a useful list of Mecos Indians according to names and ages. (P. Lenz, September 1989)

Documents deal with request of Vidal de Lorca, Melchor that his salary be increased and that he be exempt from payment of Media Annata. A good account is given concerning the different salaries made by other governors, such as that of Texas. It is shown that these other salaries are considerably higher than Vidal de Lorca's. Last documents concern request that he be exempt from payment of Media Annata. Claims to have fulfilled this duty. Concerns passing of title governador del Nuevo Reino de leon from Lorca y Villena to Gonzalez de Santianes and delay due to serious illness of latter; Lorca y Villena must stay in office another 5-6 months until Gonzalez recuperates; includes statements by doctors testifying to seriousness of his illness; also contains reales Ordenes as to responsibilities of office of gobernador. Concerns Indian Pizano Diaz' petition of ownership legal documents related to Pena Blanca Pueblo. de Arce is notified he is going to be paid the same salary as Beregana's, in his position as ministro de la real hacienda de la Caxa de la Villa de Chihuahua.

Concerns Garcia conde's petition for payments corresponding to his last five months of work. The petitions, and the answers to his demands, mention deducted money from his salary which was devoted to finance the war against French. Concerns Garcia conde claim for two thousand pesos corresponding to delayed salaries. Notifications by Cajero de la real hacienda in which the virrey approves Garcia conde's petitions. (R. Royuela's petition to virrey concerning payment of his salary since his departure from Spain, or from his first day on job as ministro pagador de la Caja de Saltillo, in New Spain.

Cotrino becomes Alcalde mayor of Nombre de Dios after death of Gomez Sanudo. Testimonies from Gomez Cordera, vallartas, aryza, concio, Cayetano, Casasola, Sadzon, and Alfaro y alzedo protest Cotrina's appointment. Objections to Cotrina focus on cotrin's conduct and occupation in Guadalaxara. There, under the pseudonym Franco, Cotrina played the role of Galan in a local theater. Casasola says Cotrina consorted with Juana Ximenez and did not play opposite his wife, instead acting opposite another woman. Sadzon states that cotrina's history as an actor shames the position of Alcalde mayor and suggests that another be named for the post. Testimonies detail aspects of the performing arts, salaries of civil officials, different kinds of tobacco, and the appointment process of Alcaldes mayores.
