Letter from Ugalde (to king?) Asking for compensation for his violent removal from government of Coahuila by Croix on April 8, 1783; he was never told reason. Exact list of his activities in five years as gobernador (no. Of campaigns, arrangement of reduccion for Mescaleros, Lipanes, etc) and previous service record included. Very well written demand for justice. Followed by copies of letters 1) by Galvez in behalf of Ugalde, 2) by Cordoba apparently about order to stop payment to Ugalde. (A. Dean, may 1990)

Cordero submits pages of services and merits to virrey. Includes rankings, dates of services, campaigns, wars. Mention (245.5 and 247.5-248) of U.s.a. agression against Texas and in Louisiana area in 1806, as well as information regarding reconquest of Texas in 1816. Reports (248) of Cordero's making peace with Tontos and Pinalenos, and his founding of Guaymas and Santo Domingo in 1818. Short reference (249) to pension granted to widow Perez. (J. Concerns Santa Maria's request for advancement of wages to cover finances of moving himself and family to San Luis Potosi; recently promoted to position of governor, he can only receive wages of Former rank (sargento mayor de dragones provinciales de San Carlos) until he takes new position; contains lists of expenses incurred by Santa Maria and family. Documents deal with Grimarest payment of media anata for his position of gobernador intendente of Sonora and Sinaloa; discussion that such province is not covered by royal order of 1786 and thus is open for taxation; Grimarest sends summary of his military career and requests he be exempt from such taxes; the king orders that Grimarest should be exempt. Ugarte y Loyola repeats request (See sequence 24) that he be paid back wages for which he alleges he is owed; explains that he himself owes money, that wages from new governorship of Puebla apenas me ofrecen Una moderada decencia; presents military history again, hoping to demonstrate merit; claims that though his health not good, he has managed to fulfill all obligations to virrey and government, expects same in return; also, vasallos hungry, impoverished, in need of financial assistance; Galves passes request to virrey, but first is signed by many and various fiscales; request denied. No longer governor of Coahuila, Ugarte y Loyola requests either payment for salaries due or assignment to new governorship; informed that war expenses makes impossible fulfillment of money owed him; assigned to post as gobierNo militar of Sonora; submits many letters to virrey, others, telling of military and political experience, such as governorships, promotion to brigadier, expeditions, companies in which involved; finally, named governor of Puebla de los Angeles. Addresses whether Mendoza, who died 11-26-60, left will or not; appears not, so only surviving relative, Sister in Castilla, to inherent everything. Colleagues of Mendoza Argue will exists which divides wealth among glorioso Senor San Joachin, the poor, and Mendoza's widow, but group unable to locate original document, thereby casting doubt on validity of duplicate. Sister Dies, but her children deemed rightful heirs. Lawyers negotiate of legal fees involved in transaction. (L. Kerr, may 1989)
