Summary
Fray Bazo warns of impeding uprising among Indians at junta de los Rios missions, noting sus desordenes, Mas de lo Comun, assi en bailes embriagueses de Peiote, Tlatoles, y otras acciones, (note indication of Indian drug use), and asks that presidio be established there. Gobernador Caravajal conducts investigation of rumor, told by Indian gobernadores of Julimes, Tapacolmes pueblos that junta de los Rios Indians were quietos, that many were muy ladinos, and that these Indians frequently migrated south to work in Chihuahua mines, haciendas. Indian gobernadores of junta de los Rios missions meet with Carvajal, state that rumor is false and declare their loyalty to the crown. Carvajal, concludes that although junta de los Rios Indians are at peace, nevertheless a presidio in the area would be of grandissima utilidad to contain hostile Indian raids. (T. Sheridan) (1976)

Documents concerning Coaguileno, Cabesa, Cocoyome Indians (24 Gandules) who escaped from a Collera (chain gang) deporting Indians from el Pasaje presidio to Mexico City and raided, murdered on their way back to their home territory around Parras in Coaguila. Chain gang never reached Mexico City, Indians escaped at Paraje de Cuesta Blanca de Barrera and several made their way to Volcan de Orisaba. Many escapees killed along the way. Includes interrogation of Diego de la Cruz Pacheco, Coaguileno and one of the escapees, now imprisoned in Parral. (T. Summary
Gobernador Quigue and Indian naturales of Curcurpe bring suit against Francisco Montes, alias "el Pintor," a Pima Indian who married a Cucurpe woman, annexed much land around a small plot she owned north of Pueblo, and managed to win control of Cucurpe's source of irrigation water. El Pintor accused of: 1) embargoing water, thereby causing many fields in Cucurpe to fail; 2) engaging in the malas costumbres de sacar vino (bacanora?), getting many Indians drunk; 3) assaulting padre Luis Velarde, causing el Pintor to be fugitive in Pimeria Alta before he came to Cucurpe. When asked by a priest to stop making vino, el Pintor replied that "cuando todos lo dexaran lo dexaria el." Much information on land tenure, title registration, etc. Reference to estancia del padre quino 4 leagues upriver from Cucurpe. Gobernador Alday charges Coaguileno Indians of Santa Rosa de Nadadores with rebellion and apostasy, claiming they and their gobernador, Don Pablo- 1) left their mission; 2) incited Cocoyomes to rebellion; 3) Allied themselves with Coaguilenos at Cinco Senores led by Don Pablo's Brother Don Francisco, as well as Cabesas at Parras; 4) committed murders and robberies, including attack on Monclova in 1721. Sarmiento, appointed Juez comisario by Alday, interrogates the Nadadores Coaguilenos, imprisoned in Parral jail. Don Pablo informs him Coaguilenos fled Nadadores because of trouble at Coaguila presidio. Alday recommends Indian prisoners be deported. Preparations for campaign against hostile Cocoyome, Coaguileno Indians involving forces from Mapimi, Gallo, Cerrogordo, Conchos presidios, Tepeguan and Tlascalteco Indian auxiliaries, and vecinos from Spanish communities. Campaign rosters included. Some prisoners taken and interrogated, including Cocoyome leader Juan de Lomas. Lomas blames Coaguilenos for all the robberies and murders. Frequent references to the imprisonment of Coaguileno community of Cinco Senores Pueblo. Alday recommends prisoners be deported to Mexico. Good summary document by Alday 0489a-0492b. After Balthasar Rancho assures gobernador Alday Tarahumaras not in rebellion, he describes unrest, especially in pueblos of Papigochi and Tomochic caused by Tarahumara-Pima Indian named Stanislao, who id undermining authority of Tarahumara gobernador Sebastian, committing other seditions acts, attempting to form own Pueblo with followers from other Tarahumara villages and mugeres de Mala Vida y comunes.
