Gobernador Cruzat y Gongora convokes junta de guerra to deal with Apache problems. After receiving various opinions and plans, gobernador orders teniente Bernardo Bustamante to lead a detachment of soldiers from Santa Fe and Albuquerque, as well as some Indians from the pueblos, to locate Apache rancherias. The Apaches are to be advised to retire to own lands and to live at peace with Spanish and Indian neighbors if choose to communicate with them. (Raul Saba) (1980)

Diego Gonzales and Ambrosio Fresqui brought suit against Phelipe Arratia for obstructing traffic over the Camino de real in the Canada de Chimayo by using some the disputed land for farming. Case decided (after testimonies of long-time residents of area) in plaintiffs' favor. Arratia ordered to vacate. (R. Saba) (1980)

On receiving news of the strength of rebel forces, Vargas orders his troops to meet with the Tezuque warriors commanded by Domingo and smash the rebels. Again the flooding of the River inhibits progress. (John Zilboorg) (1980)

Vargas makes a trip through Tezuque, Jacona and Ydelphonso. He has a rough time making it out of Tezuque because he is trapped by the hostile Indians. Finally his friend, governor Domingo, helps him out. The rest of the journey goes well and the cornfields are inspected. (John Zilboorg) (1980)

Vargas sends out Antonio Zisnos to find some lost corn. Zisnos finds two Indians, questions them and finds that the corn has been deposited in a nearby Arroyo. One Indian escapes and is shot trying to swim the flooded River. The bags of corn are returned to Santa Fe. (John Zilboorg) (1980)

Chaves writes to Vargas that the Bernalillo families cannot be sent to Santa Fe because the River del Norte has flooded. He asks Vargas for an escort with whose help he might be able to make the crossing. (John Zilboorg) (1980)

This is a letter to the viceroy concerning the request for escorts by certain padres. Vargas explains that he cannot give the amount of men asked for. He explains conditions in regard to the missions and certain Indians in the outlying areas. He is afraid of the Indians losing confidence if the padres show up with soldiers escorting them as well.
