Concerns relations with Indians and infractions of peace agreements. says Apaches have acquired valuable knowledge and advantages possible only during peace yet do not practice peace. Move north or request peace. Ugalde requests permission to meet with translator, follow moving Indians and remedy present conditions. says Ugarte should imprison all denying peace at present since campaign difficult to initiate due to drought. says Texas can't provide cattle or horses to campaign and many dying from lack of water and grazing land. says this campaign to ensure compliance should not extend to Nueva Vizcaya where peace should not be offered. Virrey says campaign should begin soon after end of drought and warns Ugalde that Indians accepting peace should not be punished. Ugalde provides description of campaign and information on type and number of troops employed. Contains troop inventory and important campaign notes. Ugalde hoping for well-deserved promotion to brigadier based on mentioned accomplishments. Contains lengthy summary of merits and services of Ugalde, his Father and grandfather including family and military history in both new and old world. Includes participation in military events, appointments and mention of previous superiors. Virrey sends resume to king for response. Virrey approves Ugalde's temporary appointments. Summary
Summarizing the circumstances of his trial for marrying without a license and the favorable final report, Vaamonde asks the auditor de guerra to be forgiven and assigned a new post in order to recover economically. The answer tells him to wait the resolution of the royal authorities. He repeats his request in a long letter addressed to the viceroy were he makes an apologetic account of his whole career. He finally obtains the real pardon but he is not given any post. (A. Nielsen, October 1989)

Request by Josef Bujanos to be transferred to the segunda compania volante del Nuevo Santander from the regimiento de dragones in Mexico. He wants to work with his Brother, Miguel, who is Alferez of the segunda compania. He also requests he be made a sargento. His request to move is granted. Francisco Xavier Goni purchased ship (San Judas Fadeo) in the canaries and sailed for Havanna then Ostiones with load and passengers. After leaving Havana ship sank. Only few crew lived and told what happened. Documents verify discovery of wreckage parts and auction of same. Ff.131 appears to quote laws concerning finding of unclaimed objects. Ship's Matricula, ff. 155-156. Wages paid for unearthing of wreck, ff.111-114. Possible document of boat purchase by Goni, ff.162-163. Steal some of the wreckage from beach and were killed. Request made for money for Goni's widow, Maria Hernandez Goni. Ff.204 contains verification of the Goni's marriage, names their parents. (S. Langmack September 1989)

Representacion from Father Corrales concerning scandalous life of Pedro Guemes, resident of Altamira; Corrales describes Guemes' as abusive drunk, especially with regard to wife, describes other offensive behavior such as saying 'cosas irregulares contra el projimo'. Corrales' believes behavior warrants Guemes' expulsion from village, even provincia; includes testimonios, letters from teniente y justicia mayor, others village residents, vouching for Corrales' observations; Sierragorda orders Guemes into custody of captain Serna, who will punish him justly. Summary
Documents concern murder of Casimiro de Ibarra by his Brother Juan. Both had been drinking pulque and a fight ensued. And Casimiro is killed by his Brother. Rest of documents interview witnesses about what happened. Casimiro's widow and Father are interviewed and Owner of shack where they had been eating tamales and drinking pulque. Father's biography given. His military record and his long service in pacification of the new colony. Other witnesses are friends of the Ibarra family who also tell of the family background. Defendant's confession is taken. His goods confiscated. Many documents dont concern the case , but rather slow process of the proceedings. Witnesses are found after too long a period of time. They are questioned improperly and procedure is said to have been ignored in the judicial process of this murder case. After these documents, case is resumed and Juan de Ibarra is finally sentenced to eight years in the fronteirs of Veracruz. Virrey changes sentence due to defendant's long detainment due to the slowness of trial. Sentence is four years of presidio in work of fortifying the Plaza of la Habana. Transfer of prisoner is described. He is deemed exiled from Palmillas and all territory of the colony for life. (P. Lenz, September 1989)

Summary
Documents concern the death of the conde de Sierra Gorda. Gives lengthy biography of his services to the crown, of his settling and establishing of villages and repelling Indians attacks. A detailed account of his early military career in Querataro is given. His various promotions and especially of his successful campaigns against the Indians. A good account is given of his establishing of numerous towns and missions and of his pacification of the Indians and of their conversion to catholicism. Conde de Sierra Gorde decorated with the titulo de Castillo, thus freeing him of payment of Media Annata. Account of 1742 battle with English nation and of their attack on Veracruz. Later documents concern charges brought against him by citizens of his province for his over-aggressive style. royal commission sent to investigate. Conde de Sierra Dies before case completed. His son's role in defending his deceased Father against the charges. Commission's finding of no substance to charges. Additional letters concern the request that the governorship become a hereditary post and that the deceased's son, Manuel, shall be named as governor. His son's biography is extensively listed-military campaigns, settlement of towns, and pacification of Indians. A further request is made that assistance be given to the entire family. Names of family members given and their newly-granted offices and titles listed. Governorship granted to Manuel. Throughout the volume are good descriptions of founding of towns and resulting battle with the Indians. Folios 145-149 are especially strong in describing la Campana en Tamaulipas, including number of deaths, injured and prisoners taken. Also detailed are Indian banditry and the attempt to convert them through education and the missions. (P. Lenz, September 1989)
