A long and often rambling summary report by the auditor de guerra the marques de Altamira. Evidently in part a response to a request from the Jesuit vice provincial for increased military action against the Apaches and comment on the Jesuit's recommendations, the auditor outlines the status of the various presidios and includes a brief history of various Indian, uprisings, comments on the various political problems centering governors Huidobro and Vildosola and makes recommendations concerning crown policy toward presidios, missions, Indians etc. (D. Concerns the establishment of the religious in the newly conquered area of the Rio del Norte. The Indians do not want to be governed by the religious, while the conqueror says that without them the Indians will leave. (M. Bowman) (1978)

Campos argues against Crespo's proposed route to Moqui (Hopi) pueblos via Chihuahua and Nueva Mexico, proposing instead he travel north from Jesuit Pima missions. Argues that Jesuits with their bases in Sonora better able to missionize the Hopis. Claims Hopis have requested Jesuits, not Franciscans. Notes his own and General Bezerra's plans to visit Moqui in 1723 via San Simon, Gila River. (T. Sheridan) (1979)

A Series of documents relative to the establishment of a presidio at the Valle de Xicarilla. The Xicarilla Apaches had told the governor (Bustamante) that they wished to embrace christianity etc. It was then recommended that a presidio and three missions be established in the Valley. Apparently the Xicarillas were seeking protection from the Cumanches. After some deliberation, it is recommended that the Xicarillas be moved to Taos, since the establishment of a new presidio would be expensive and would drain the resources of the presidios at Conchos and Casas Grandes. Chronological description of an expedition undertaken with the purpose of enlarging Spanish influence in the province of Texas. This expedition was sent a result of French involvement in that area. The author puts great emphasis on the types of vegetation (ie, Mezquites, Alamos, Sabinos, Robles, Nogales, etc.) and animals (deer, rabbit and a detailed description of the Zibolo or toro Mexicano) found on their way. Describes the re-establishment of previously abandoned missions and the incentives given to the Indians to live around them. A 'cedula' of the king (included at the end of the document) forbids them to make war against the French while on this expedition. (E. Klien) (1978)

Detailed day by day account by the Head of the expedition which accompanied the founding of the junta de los Rios missions. Gives descriptions of the progress of the surrounding province and the royal mine of Cuellar which later became Chihuahua. The writers attitudes, Antonio de Trasvina Retes an important pioneer of the area, toward a host of topics are outlined. (D. Deeds) (1976)
